Lisa perceives her dance and artistic practices as breath—invigorating, enriching, and boundary-pushing. These pursuits serve as a source of sustenance, belonging, and a means to explore oneself deeply.

Her work is in honor of the line of one hundred thousand grandmothers that spans out behind her and all women seeking a way to articulate their truth.

My Story

Dance and art are essential to my life, providing energy, joy, and a deep sense of aliveness. They help me expand my sense of self, articulate my inner world with more clarity, and feel more grounded amidst life’s constant changes. Through this practice, I’ve developed lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging in the dance community.

I moved to Coromandel Town in 1999, feeling immediately at home in its vibrant creative community. Soon after, I began studying art with TLC in Wellington, and within months, I found myself on the Mana Retreat dance floor, taking a 5Rhythms class with Geordie Jahner. I’m deeply grateful for Geordie’s guidance, which has supported my journey from a shy beginner to now teaching Open Floor. This transformation has led to a deep personal practice, where dance and art are intertwined, growing together within me.

Art-making feeds my creative spirit, and I thrive on challenging ideas that allow me to explore both the physicality of dance and the depth of artistic expression—whether through movement, paint, installations, or altars. I’m energized by the openness of the Open Floor, where every movement, every gesture, is welcomed as it is. It’s a space where uniqueness is celebrated, and each moment of movement reflects the potential of being fully present in the now.
